What is
Information Technology? Does it involve just
computer hardware? Think Facebook, Google, iPods,
eBay. These are all part of the IT world, which goes
beyond technical programming and hardware
management.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has
become an integral part of our life in more than one
way.
We use technology to improve our standard of living,
our productivity at the workplace, and introduce new
ways to communicate between businesses and with each
other.
The world has become smaller because of this
continuous exponential advances in ICT.
These advances often make possible advances in other
areas - buying and selling of goods can now take
place virtually, while music and visuals can be
exchanged, altered and accessed in an instant.
The use of computers has revolutionised the way we
work and increased savings to businesses globally.
The application of super-computers has also solved
mysteries in Biomedical Sciences and created vast
improvement to our life.
How do you
make networks faster and more secure? How can you
create an e-business? How can you process
information to help your company see business
opportunities?
The School of Information and Communications Technology
(SIT) seeks to help you answer these questions by
making you conversant with the IT industry and its
developments, and building skills so you can deal
with future changes.
You learn useful skills - navigate a robot, produce
music videos, and help businesses excel. You will
also pick up life skills as a team player, and
cultivate a self-reliant and creative spirit.
Beyond the classroom, you will have opportunities
for overseas learning trips, be involved in
industrial projects, and have relevant job
attachments.
Upon completion of your course in three years, you
will be well-poised to further your professional
education here or overseas, or take on the exciting
world of ICT with confidence.
Be involved in this challenging and interesting
field!
